SPY chiefs from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US have plotted to stop Huawei’s global growth amid fears it is spying for China, it has been claimed.
The “Five Eyes” bosses have pledged to contain the Chinese telecom company’s global domination, agreeing it poses a security risk.
The meeting was first reported by The Australian Financial Review after intelligence officials had publicly voiced concerns about Huawei and China’s “cyber espionage capabilities”.
Huawei has denied the accusations, and Western intelligence agencies have not released any evidence to back up the claims.
The accusations come amid rising tensions over Chinese technology ambitions.
It has the biggest research-and-development budget from the Chinese government at £10.3billion (89.7billion yuan).
