British Navy Base in Bahrain to open to protect oil routes

Around 600 UK military personnel will be stationed at the Bahrain Royal Navy facility, which will be used as a platform to stamp out terror in the volatile region.

HMS Juffair, built at a cost of many millions of pounds, will be opened by Prince Charles and help Britain retain its foothold in the Middle East.

Bahrain has paid most of the £30million-plus cost, with the UK contributing around £7.5million.

Navy warships will patrol the surrounding waters, closely guarding shipments of oil and gas as well as rooting-out Islamic State extremists in the area.
